Volunteering with A Little Help

Just over a year ago I relocated to the Denver area, and began working in senior living communities. I’ve become very interested in the resources available to help older adults in the community. In this ongoing process, I stumbled upon some great organizations to make improving home safety much more accessible to older adults in the community. In my research I stumbled upon an organization called A Little Help. This is a non-profit available in the Denver area, as well as Larimer County, and Mesa County. I was quickly interested in A Little Help when I saw an event posting on the Seniors Blue Book, for Service Saturday.

Service Saturday connects volunteers of all ages to team up and help older adults in need, with light yard work such as clearing gardens and leave raking. A Little Help gets in touch with older adults who benefit from light assistance to overcome barriers, live independently, and safely age in place. This was a great day of fun while throwing the boots on, raking some leaves, and getting to know others in the community.

At this event, I learned that A Little Help offers year long volunteer opportunities for their members to help with various services in older adults homes, such as changing light bulbs, running errands, snow shoveling, transportation, technology assistance, and even care calls/ friendly visits. These services are a great way to help people live longer in their homes and reduce dangerous situations. If you are an older adult looking for light assistance around the home, or are in need of a friend to hangout and socialize with, reach out to A Little Help.
